Sonia Whitehead is BBC Media Action's Head of Research. BBC Media Action is the international charity of the BBC, which uses the power of media and communication to help reduce poverty and support people in understanding their rights. Our aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world. The research team commission research across Africa, Asia and the Middle East and do their own in-house research. The aims of the research to understand the audience and how media programming can help reduce poverty and support people in understanding their rights. A mixed methods researcher, she has particular expertise in ensuring that research insights are taken up organisationally and by governments, organisations and media practitioners. She has been at BBC Media Action for over ten years, including placements in Africa and Asia. Before this, she was a market researcher for 7 years working in the UK and India.
